Norman B. Rice named trustee emeritus of Casey Family Programs
The Board of Trustees of Casey Family Programs has named Norman B. Rice trustee emeritus for his remarkable contributions to the Board over the last six years.
Rice joined the Board in 2012 and completed his Board service in May 2018. During his tenure, he helped guide Casey’s efforts to build hope in the lives of children and families across America, drawing on his extensive experience as a policymaker, elected official and philanthropic and business leader.
Rice is former president and CEO of The Seattle Foundation, one of the nation’s largest community foundations. Additionally, Rice served as former president and CEO of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle, where he brought his passion and commitment for affordable housing and community development to the private sector by working with more than 375 financial institutions to make their communities better places to work and live.
Prior to his time at Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle, Rice served two terms as mayor of Seattle, earning national praise for revitalizing downtown Seattle and strengthening city neighborhoods through public-private partnerships. While in office, he championed for an improved public school system, breathed new life into Seattle’s downtown with new retail centers, housing and civic buildings, and implemented a model welfare-to-work program.
The trustee emeritus designation is an honorary one bestowed for distinctive service. It provides opportunities for the former trustee to be invited to Board meetings and special Casey events, and to undertake special assignments as requested, although no longer as an active voting member of the Board.
The Board congratulates Norman B. Rice on this designation and greatly appreciates his service in support of children and families across America.
