What impact do early experiences have on learning, behavior and health? How can science impact policies and practices in early learning, family support, foster care, child abuse and neglect?
The Florida Department of Children and Families partnered with Casey Family Programs to explore these questions at a forum held Jan. 11, 2011, in Orlando, Florida.
The forum engaged national and state experts in helping Florida’s leaders from multiple systems in exploring scientific research and policy opportunities. Speakers included:
- Dr. Charles Zeana, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Tulane University
- George Sheldon, Secretary, Florida Department of Children and Families
- Judge Cindy S. Lederman, Eleventh Judicial Circuit
The morning sessions focused on scientific presentations about early brain science. In the afternoon, key participants discussed the application of science to specific state and local programs and policies.
